5 NFT Projects Trending on Base
We are deep in the belly of onchain summer and loving every minute of it. The amount of creativity happening on Base these days is wild. Amazing art and communities are vibing and thriving and really, that’s what it’s all about, right?
Here are 5 of our favorite based NFT projects trending rn:
1. Onchain Gaias
Onchain Gaias is a pretty unique PFP project that integrates art, gaming and AI, to create a highly interactive community experience.
The project was launched in March of this year on Farcaster, with a free mint of 5,556 passes, each of which is redeemable for a PFP when the art is finalized (which should be any day now 👀). Anton Marrast is creating the artwork, so you know it’s going to be good!
This is more than a PFP project though - it’s an experiment in decentralized AI training, with community members training AI systems through gaming. The first game in the Onchain Gaias world is Henlo Kart - a racing game played entirely in Farcaster Frames.
We’re curious to see where this goes - decentralized AI sounds great, but right now it feels like there’s a lot riding on this artwork reveal!
2. Based Fellas
Based Fellas lay claim to the title of “first 10K pfp NFT collection to launch on BASE”.
They had a kind of rocky start - a week after the initial launch last year, the original developer stepped back from the project and the contract was taken over by community members.
Since then, the Based Fellas ecosystem has been growing and expanding, with the development of their own native currency and a staking procedure/ mechanism.
We love the community dedication and the aesthetics are on-point (pixelated, punk-aliens with some really fun attributes, what more could you want?!). Excited to see where these fellas go!
3. Kemonokaki
Designed by the creative powerhouse that is Oekaki Connect, Kemonokaki is a collection of 10,000 PFPs, launched on Base in June 2024.
The design of these adorable PFPs takes inspiration from j-fashion communities, kemonomimi chibi style art (basically small characters with animal-like characteristics), and other “cute” Japanese subcultures, like Hime Gyaru and Rokku.
There are tons of great characters, including wide-eyed cyclops, mischievous goblins, and fiery dragons, as well as elves, kitties, and mermaids. There are a limited number of unique 1:1 designs too, so happy hunting!
4. MYSTCL
We’ve also got our eye on the colorful world of MYSTCL. Designed by the world-class design studio ‘Hello Mister Frank’ (whose past partners include Nike, Reebok, and McDonalds), the MYSTCL aesthetics are on-point. The attributes are imaginative and fun - from viking helmets and floral shirts, to pyramids and starry skies - and there’s rarity built in to make things extra spicy.
This is the first ERC404 PFP on Base - a fairly new, experimental token standard that combines NFTs and tokens into one asset. So, when you buy a MYSTCL token, you get an NFT, and visa versa.
The team at MYSTCL are working hard to create utility and generate income for their community - check out their guiding principles to see what they’re all about.
5. Based Punks
Finally a shout out to the Based Punks. Created by the super-talented @traf and @displaydriver, this collection of 5,000 unique PFP are an homage to the OG punks. Taking advantage of Base’s low fees and ease of use, and with fully open sourced schematics, these punks embody the true spirit of onchain art.
