2024 Recap: Our Best Year Yet?
From new chains to new marketplaces and a ton of artists drops along the way — here’s (almost) everything we built in 2024.
Phew. What a year. If you’re like us, you’ve been swept up in memecoin mania, HODL’d your BTC (hopefully) and snagged some fire NFTs. May your bags be heavy and your jpegs saved.
With charts generally trending green and NFTs making a major comeback, we are HYPED for 2025. But first, take a ride with us as we look back on everything that went down at Rarible HQ this year.
Onchain culture is popping off right now, with more and more consumer products, unique chains, and innovative NFT projects launching every day. You’ve got OGs like Doodles and Penguins bringing web3-native IP to the normies with their collabs and products (remember: a normie is just a degen who hasn’t minted an NFT yet). You’ve got brand new 10,000 piece PFP collections minting out in 45 minutes (hello ASC on Scope). And as always, you’ve got artists pushing the limits and creating fire NFTs that reflect this unique space.
It’s been a busy year at Rarible: 9 chain integrations and 8 unique branded marketplaces, plus over 200 art drops along the way. All whilst yapping our hearts out with you lovely folks across socials. And remember — we couldn’t have done it without you.
2024, month by month
Here’s a month by month look at our key releases this year.
January
We started off the year strong with full integration of RARI chain. RARI Foundation’s L3 built on top of Arbitrum went live on Mainnet and was quickly integrated on Rarible.com for primary and secondary trading. RARI embeds royalties at the contract level, putting artists and creators first.
Speaking of creators, January also saw us partner up with Forbes (yes, the Forbes) for an exclusive art contest, with grants and partnered drops for selected artists. That’s a pretty fine way to start the year if you ask us!
February
In February, we launched the Rarible API. Designed for web3’s finest devs and builders, Rarible API includes an aggregated order book, real-time NFT indexer, trading SDK and multi-chain support.
We wanted to create the ultimate tool for anyone building in the NFT space and we are constantly expanding our API to include more blockchains. Check out the API website for more info.
March
In March, we brought Base NFTs to Rarible. A hub of onchain culture and a haven for top-notch NFT projects, integrating Base was a no-brainer and paved the way for some amazing drops later in the year.
Amber Vittoria was one of the great creators dropping on Base with Rarible. See Base NFTs.
April
In April we launched 2 major RaribleX marketplaces: Celosphere and The Luminaries.
The Luminaries is the NFT marketplace of Ethereum L2 Lightlink, and this marketplace was created as the home for their native NFTs. In its first month, it racked up 13,000 visits and $32,000 GMV.
Celo’s branded marketplace Celosphere is a streamlined hub for creators on Celo. The Celo Creator’s Fund has provided $150,000 in funding for NFT projects launched on Celosphere.
May
May was a big month for our art community, with huge drops from NFT OGs Sabet and Efdot.
Sabet dropped ‘Minimals’ on Base — a 20,000 piece generative collection and part of his wider Tokyo Punks series.
Efdot’s ‘Breakthrough’ was a hand-drawn video loop, exploring the concept of life-cycles through the digital canvas, executed in Efdot’s signature style.
June
Digital collectibles are one of the many perfect use cases for NFTs, and June saw the Cryptoys branded marketplace go live. The Digital Toy Exchange is a hub for onchain collectibles, where users can buy and trade Cryptoys NFTs as well as collectibles from other major IPs like Mattel.
July
Things were really heating up in July when we launched our Degen NFT Campaign. Collaborating with the team at Degen, we launched 15 different artist drops with $DEGEN enabled for minting. Anyone who snagged one of these NFTs received points, leading to over 20K mints. When communities come together — that’s when the magic happens.
August
August was an insane month for art drops and integrations. We had amazing collections from Tù.úk’z on Ethereum and Andre Oshea on Bitcoin Ordinals with Gamma, and launched a project close to our hearts: The Onchain Summer Postcards. NFT Packs that you rip open and share with your friends? Yes please!
We also integrated 4 chains (that’s right, 4), meaning you can buy, sell and list on Aptos, Moonbeam, Lisk, and Palm.
September
As September rolled around, we welcomed the vibrant Etherlink community to Rarible, paving the way for dope art drops later in the year (like the sold-out drops from Mark Knoll and Mek.txt).
October
We fully embraced the spooky season with Nygilia’s Halloween drop. This 2 phase drop on Base had us minting potions and transforming them into the most dope gifs of Alzena — a character that the artist has been developing for 6 years. We were super proud to help bring this vision to life.
November
Some people might slow down towards the end of the year, but not us. We launched 3 new RaribleX marketplaces and we re-committed to our arts community in a major way.
The Scope marketplace is the go-to launchpad for NFTs on the Eclipse chain and is powered by RaribleX. We finally got the answer to the age-old question of “wen Lambo” with Gravitaslabs via the Lamborghini Revuelto marketplace — also built by yours truly. And last but definitely not least, Bazaar went live — the NFT marketplace for gamers on Oasys.
And of course, we launched our Here For The Art Campaign: where we re-commit to our amazing community of artists and creators. We are here to tell your stories, build you up, and — most importantly — enforce your royalties. Check out our manifesto here.
December
In web3, you have to finish with a bang baby, so we’re closing out the year with Berable. This exclusive Berachain NFT marketplace is the new home for all Boo, Bit and Baby Bears. Did we mention there’s points to be earned? Ooga Booga, and a happy new year.
What’s next in 2025?
We are still in the early stages of a bull cycle, and honestly, it feels like everything’s about to go nuts. And you best believe that we are cooking up some pretty major collabs and partnerships next year to bring you the very best of all things NFTs.
We also know that no matter what, we will spend yet another year building a future that empowers creators, chains, and collectors.
LFG 2025!
